Using a ohm, 50 watt L-pad set at mid-rotation provides 8 ohms and yet still allows for considerable range of adjustment. The inductor was glued to the back with 5-minute epoxy. At center rotation, the network gives the following measured electrical response:. This very closely matches the desired characteristic. At maximum attenuation, the following electrical response was measured. The difference is primarily in the top octave. Setting the L-pad at minimum resistance effectively takes the network completely out.
Use the left and center terminals of the L-pad as viewed from the rear. Do not follow the instructions that come with it. The inductor is an air core unit with 18 AWG wire. The cabinet volume is 3 cubic feet. External cabinet dimensions are The vent is 4 inches in diameter and 4 inches long and is shown mounted in a plate because it was reduced in size. The initial size was 6 inches in diameter and 2 inches long.
This was too under damped and caused excessive boomy bass. The selected size over damps the speaker, which extends the bass to well below 50 Hz and removes the thumping. The Crystal has long been our flagship and pride that surpasses all our expectations in the area of price versus quality in our driver range.
Take a leap of faith and try our outstanding product of which we are extremely proud. Fantastic performance in both the low, mid and high frequencies. Clear and truly beautiful sound combined with the benefits of high sensitivity. Ideal for use with low power valve or solidstate amplifiers but also superb and surprising with larger amplifiers above for example 20 watts. Be prepared to enjoy the absolute beauty of single driver wideband speakers of the highest quality.
Thanks to all knowledge and experience gain from Crystal we can continue challenging the higher top of full range speakers development. Received about 2 weeks after order, very well packed in a wooden case. These drivers are amazingly good or even far more better than I expected. These are truly full range and give lovely high and mid as well as warm low, just sit and listen then let the music bring up colorful imaginations. The sound of these drivers do touch the soul!
Without any technical comparition, do some proper enclosure or OB and just let them sound, you will easily find them better than even much more expensive drivers! I have bought a pair of this wonderful looking drivers in November and a few days later they arrived well packed.
Groundloops Member. My all time favourite is the well known E. Jordan JX92s. I've tried many others, and for me this driver has it all. You always have to take compromises on fullrange speakers, and the JX92s in my humble opinion is the slightest. It is fairly small, so do not expect it to reproduce the lowest octave, but in a 8l vented enclosure it gives astonishing deep bass. I had many fullrangers: Fostex didn't like any , Veravox, Tangband and so on.
None of them gave me the fatigue-free, balanced tonality and spatiality as the JX92s does. Actually my Jordans are blended with a tweeter, but having the xover external i can Switch from two-way to fullrange with active baffle step correction any time.
More about my Speakers here. Prepare for the MA vs Jordan debate. You really have to separate the efficient 8" fullranges from the smaller 4" fullranges. They sound very different, and are meant to be used with different types of amplification to sound best. Click to expand CastleJohn said:. I share CastleJohn's dislike for the FE Many Fostexes share that forward character. However I found the FFWK a lot richer sounding and will use a pair for a small office room system , but it is not the overall best either.
Well, as others have noted, best is debatable. My recommendation would be the Markaudio A12P. I bought a pair after a demo in the SuperPensil cabinet, which is even not the ideal cabinet for it it was designed for the A I found the A12P remarkably musical, nice on voices, and also great sounding at low volumes.
I have previously heard and admired some top flight full rangers from AER and Voxativ, yet the A12P is so good that you can ask yourself "why pay more". It is on a higher class than all Fostexes that I've heard and I heard most of them , except for an impressive limited edition that I heard in Japan.
The A12P won't have the deepest bass but in a nice enclosure it will definitely have enough bass. Intriguing, cotdt. Which would be more suited to low powered class A amplification? Given all that pampering, they can play almost anything I throw at them, with one caveat: when you turn the volume control up, they end up louder than the woofers. Of course, this usage is hardly "full-range". For that, I'd say some of Mark Audio's new drivers are very good. Or, the Fostex FFwk the 8" new one , once backed with a supertweeter, is also very good, and can summon dynamics that smaller drivers never will.
